Hermannshöhen approx. 226 km - Hiking trail Teutoburg Forest

Hiking in the Teutoburg Forest makes you happy – especially on the Top Trail Hermannshöhen. That is why we recommend you: Hike the Hermannsweg! Between the Westphalian Halle and the Velmerstot observation tower you will find the Sparrenburg, the Hermanns monument, the Extern stones and again and again the luck of far views.

From castle to mountain

This 7 km circular hiking trail leads through easily accessible paths through Bielefeld and is an ideal route even for less experienced hikers. Along the Bielefelder Pass there are many interesting excursion destinations in the East Westphalian metropolis. Tip to start your hike in Bielefeld: a visit to the Sparrenburg castle and fortress from the year 1240.

The hiking trail leads along the Johannis – cemetery and the Botanical Garden in Bielefeld to the entry-free zoo Olderdissen. The Ochsenheide, a gem, lines the hike on the route section to the farmhouse museum. Then continue to the Johannisberg, from where the descent back to the starting point begins.

Olderdissen - Animal Park

The Olderdissen – animal park is a popular destination for families with children, kindergartens and school classes. On the approximately 16 hectare facility you can view and observe over 450 animals of 90 different species. The Olderdissen – animal park is located in the middle of the Johannisberg in the Teutobug Forest and is therefore also popular for many walkers from the surrounding area. The concept of the zoo shows itself through the natural enclosures, ponds and meadows and invites one or the other animal species to voluntarily settle in the vicinity of their fellows. A large playground also invites you to play and have fun.

From the Hotel Bielefelder Hof you can easily reach the Olderdissen zoo by car in 10 minutes or you can use the tram line 1 in the direction of Senne to the Bethel stop and combine your visit with a half-hour walk past the botanical garden up to the Johannisberg.

Botanical Garden - Bielefeld

In 2012 the Botanical Garden – Bielefeld celebrated its 100th anniversary. It is attractively located on the Kahlenberg near the center and offers visitors a varied picture. Not only those interested in botany, but also walkers like the enormous scope of the plant collection as well as the diverse garden design elements. Regardless of whether you are more interested in trees or flowers, everyone can discover their favorite plant in the botanical garden! Special highlights are the rhododendrons and azaleas collections as well as the presentation of the different habitats: rock garden, alpine garden, medicinal and spice garden, heather garden and beech forest flora – to name just a few. Children are usually particularly interested in the playground.
