Whether as a couple or as a family, you can observe animals from our region in the Heimattierpark Olderdissen, explore the variety of plants in the botanical garden, visit our landmark the Sparrenburg or experience great adventures in the climbing park in the middle of Johannisberg.
Please inform yourself about current opening times and guided tours at the respective parks in Bielefeld, as some dates have not taken place due to the corona pandemic or opening times have been adjusted.
The Olderdissen – animal park is a popular destination for families with children, kindergartens and school classes. On the approximately 16 hectare facility you can view and observe over 450 animals of 90 different species. The Olderdissen – animal park is located in the middle of the Johannisberg in the Teutobug Forest and is therefore also popular for many walkers from the surrounding area. The concept of the zoo shows itself through the natural enclosures, ponds and meadows and invites one or the other animal species to voluntarily settle in the vicinity of their fellows. A large playground also invites you to play and have fun.
From the Hotel Bielefelder Hof you can easily reach the Olderdissen zoo by car in 10 minutes or you can use the tram line 1 in the direction of Senne to the Bethel stop and combine your visit with a half-hour walk past the botanical garden up to the Johannisberg.
In 2012 the Botanical Garden – Bielefeld celebrated its 100th anniversary. It is attractively located on the Kahlenberg near the center and offers visitors a varied picture. Not only those interested in botany, but also walkers like the enormous scope of the plant collection as well as the diverse garden design elements. Regardless of whether you are more interested in trees or flowers, everyone can discover their favorite plant in the botanical garden! Special highlights are the rhododendrons and azaleas collections as well as the presentation of the different habitats: rock garden, alpine garden, medicinal and spice garden, heather garden and beech forest flora – to name just a few. Children are usually particularly interested in the playground.
Nobody knows exactly when it was built. The Bielefeld Sparrenburg – or Sparrenberg Castle to be precise – was first mentioned in a document in 1256.
A trip to the Sparrenburg in Bielefeld is worthwhile in every season, because the mighty fortress offers the visitor a wonderful panoramic view over the university town in the Teutoburg Forest. The extensive castle grounds are located on one of the most beautiful high-altitude hiking trails in Germany and are accessible all year round. From April to October there are 2 guided tours of the casemate each day and a tower climb is offered from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Experience urban life in Bielefeld Mitte. The large square with a central location near Jahnplatz is always full of life. The Kesselbrink invites you to linger – stroll across the square with an ice cream in your hand or relax on one of the seats by the fountain.
With the largest inner-city skate park in Germany and the regular market there is always something going on.
The Kesselbrink can be easily reached within 10 minutes walking distance from the Hotel Bielefelder Hof.
The Bauer Bernd adventure farm in Borgholzhausen is a paradise for children. Located in the nature of the Teutoburg Forest, the farm offers plenty of space and opportunities to run, jump and play. There are pedal go-karts in various sizes, trampolines for hopping, bales of straw for climbing and the magic carpet for surfing over hills in tow of the yard carrier. A special highlight is the hemp labyrinth with a small observation tower in its center.
The farm shop and the bistro with its beer garden flair invite parents to relax.
From our hotel you can reach the farm in about 25 minutes by car. Wellies and mud pants are recommended.
Safariland Stukenbrock is a wildlife zoo with 600 animals, over 30 rollercoasters in the amusement park and an indoor play park “Kattas Welt”.
Just like on a real safari in Africa, you can drive through the savannah landscape of the facility by car, the safari bus or a VIP safari with your own ranger and experience the wild animals up close without fences or enclosures.
