Bergmannsweg Kirchdornberg approx. 5 km hiking

Bielefeld history over five kilometers: On the new adventure trail “Bergmannsweg Kirchdornberg” at the foot of the Teutoburg Forest, it is hard to see that miners once cavorted here and that the underground was criss-crossed by tunnels and shafts. But coal was mined here for 400 years. With the closure of the “Friedrich-Wilhelms-Glück” colliery, local coal mining ended in 1923.

You can discover the new adventure trail while hiking through the Teutoburg Forest. Six stations take hikers on the trail of the former coal mining.

Hermannshöhen approx. 226 km - Hiking trail Teutoburg Forest

Hiking in the Teutoburg Forest makes you happy – especially on the Top Trail Hermannshöhen. That is why we recommend you: Hike the Hermannsweg! Between the Westphalian Halle and the Velmerstot observation tower you will find the Sparrenburg, the Hermannsdenkmal, the Externsteine and again and again the luck of far views.

Ems-Lutter-Weg approx. 5 km hiking in Bielefeld

This city hike in the green heart of the Quelle district in Bielefeld leads 4.8 km through the Luttertal without major differences in altitude.

The Ems-Lutter hiking trail begins in the upper Luttertal and leads between some ponds. This area was previously heavily used by industry, but after numerous renaturation measures, ecologically valuable standing and flowing water as well as a swampy alder beech forest have emerged here again.

In the further course the Luttertal widens and the path leads past meadows and wooded dunes, which originally come from the first ice age. In an arc you reach Niemöller’s mill and the upstream mill pond, from where the last section runs close to the stream to Heinemannstraße.

From castle to mountain - hiking trail approx. 7 km

This circular route leads over easily accessible paths and is an ideal route even for less experienced hikers. Along the Bielefelder Pass there are many interesting excursion destinations in the East Westphalian metropolis. Tip to start: a visit to the Sparrenburg castle and fortress from 1240.

Along the Johannisfriedhof and the Botanical Garden in Bielefeld, the hiking trail leads to the free entry-level Olderdissen Zoo. The Ochsenheide, a gem, lines the hike on the route section to the farmhouse museum. We continue to the Johannisberg, from where the descent back to the starting point begins.
